Not too Meaningful... But Not to Measly Either

My feet officially touched the ground around 11:40 this morning. My back was stiff and my neck a bit crooked, but it felt good to be lazy... My second day of Garde Manger was vastly better than my first. Didn't reeeaally do much except chop tomatoes, radishes, and clean, but still it was a vastly better day. One of the chefs kept giving me things to do throughout the night so I didn't need to stand around feeling useless. It wasn’t the busiest night but there was a consistent flow of carpaccio being sent out and I randomly stood out at the window drizzling the final dressing and balsamic glaze over the arugula and parmagiano salad. Nothing terribly spectacular, but still even here there is a flow and communication to figure out and join into. One perk of this station… one side of the huge table plates salads, and the other plates the desserts. I have a spoon handy throughout the night to sample the various ice-creams and sorbets :) Every few minutes there is a random person who comes by and makes him-/her-self an ice cream cone or eat a few berries from the drawer. Pieces of cake and slices of roast pork or veal chops float past only to be grabbed and nibbled on. I’ve never seen so much food eated in a kitchen. It is quite funny… And tasty… But I should increase my nibblage so that I wouldn’t be hungry afterwards… still working on that  :)
After cleaning and mentally heading out the door one of the chefs said, “come on.” Five huge sheets of mushrooms needed to be chopped before the end… About 8 of us got cutting boards and sliced away… Didn’t take long since everyone wanted to just leave. Boards handed to the dishman, knives washed, and I was finally out the door and craving a burger… No burger, but I am munching on cookies in the lobby.. They are helping, but I forgot the aspirin and water in my room. Bugger of a headache…. Could use a good massage right about now… and that burger. But sleep after these cookies will do.
I’m happy the day is over. I’m yawning, and with this note reached a thirdparagraph… so not too skimpy of an entry? Eh.. kind of.  I could always stretch it out and tell you about how dull my knife has become… and I really need to sharpen it. Or I could tell you that my right shoe squeaks when I am walking up hill but not downhill? And finish off the stretching by tell you that … umm… taking too long to figure the third out, so we will stick with the two stretches and simply say,” Goodnight”… or should I say Gut Nacht… probably botched the spelling…. Just say good night with some good throaty “acht” at the end… and there you have it… the German way. And with it I stretched my third and final paragraph enough so I can be happier with something not too terribly meaningful but certainly not as measly.
