I discovered on the cold and rainy walk down the hill that my 9 Euro spin off Uggs… they are not water proof. It was quite a squishy sensation there at the end when I finally go back to my room. I plan on buying some cozy water proof boots next trip to Sonthofen. The squish was well worth the slice of strudel and coffee at Café Mayer. Today was another cold day. I woke up around 9:30 peeked out the window to check on the snow situation and saw only wet pavement and soggy leaves.. back to bed and BBC. Lost interest and pulled out the laptop for another round of podcasts… I’m running out of new ones… oh dear. Around 2 my cup of coffee and cookie wore out and I put on my thermal “unders,” pants, shirt, thermal shirt, jacket, scarf, socks, uggs, and gloves. I don’t call it over kill…. I call it cozy. Braced for impact and opened my door.Today it was my turn to get things moving. I knocked on Mayas door and told her to get wrapped up and ready for a walk. She eventually showed up after I ate sandwich... another sandwich, some hot tea… more hot tea and slice of cake. I stepped out the door and there she was ready to eat. I left her to awkwardly snack with a mute German.
When I finally returned she was ready and walk, we finally did. Shivering and snapping pictures and avoiding the puddles on the ground. I kept asking Maya if she was seeing what I was seeing. She kept responding in the affirmative… And I would ask again. There are few things as frustrating as seeing how pictures just don’t look like the view in front of your eyes… It was bloody cold and my poor nose needed a hat or something, but the scarf helped and after walking a little further and laughing harder it was a bit easier to bear. We hopped over an electric fence to shortcut to the usual trail, walking quickly and carefully to avoid bringing on any bovine fury and the massive gifts they tend to leave behind. The most interesting part of the walk, however, had to be about half way through the woods. Maya had embraced the term over kill with two pairs of thermal “unders” underneath her pants. She kept stopping to “itch” her itches and try to unwrinkle the layers… I kept telling her, jokingly, to just take them off… but idea got her looking for a good spot to do just that. I stood along the path as the look out. We talked with each other, joked about how awkward it would be if someone came by… Just as I finished the sentence… I heard steps… Maya stopped talking and I grabbed my camera to focus on a nearby fence… looking as nonchalant as I possibly could. The guy said an awkward “hallo,” and kept walking… Soon he was out of sight and eventually hearing range and Maya emerged, legging in hand, itch-free, and happy.
Tonight’s dinner in the Bavarino reminded me of the German version of Greek food… but they just tried to make it Asian. Ingredients that looked Asian: Snap peas, carrots, bean sprouts, a cashew sauce without the chicken… beef instead… then they added the parsley and the white pepper… and …then it was just a beefy stew… with tomatoes… Oh… when I go home I am going straight for a stir fry with garlic, ginger, some soy sauce, maybe some sweet chili sauce... sesame oil… And chicken. I think I have had chicken maybe once since I’ve been here (it had a broccoli filling). Every day it is either beef or pork. I actually miss chicken. A good roasted chicken, sliced on a sandwich, chicken salad, fried chicken… oh chicken. I could really go for some chicken right about now… Mmmmmhmmm…. No schnitzel… no veal… nothing stewed… quickly sautéed and still crunchy vegetables and chicken. Yup
The lobby doesn’t have chicken.
Or crunchy vegetables….
Just beer
Nice read, thanks for sharing; now off to enjoy chicken and vegetables Sunday lunch!
