No snow… sigh… again… another morning waking up and peeking out the window, only to find wet ground. Patience is a virtue. I woke up with sore shoulders and a bugger of a headache, brought to me by my bed. Two Aspirins, boiled water, mug… grabbed my jar of instant coffee… slight panic. It was really light today. I use about 2 healthy scoops per cup and hadn’t been paying much attention to the change in container weight. I used to make fun of my mommy when she was running low on coffee and realized that there was no new packaged left. My thoughts at the time, “Just go to Publix tomorrow. One day without the stuff, no big deal.” Now I understand. I must get some more tomorrow in Sonthofen… It is not just stuff to me anymore. It is a must.
I layer up and faced the cold world for lunch. I passed on the over-cooked and held-for-too-long salmon and stuck with the rice and buttery vegetables and tea… It did the job of feeding me… that’s all. But now I am craving some black beans and rice from a Cuban place a minute away from JWU... Little Havana, and some of their fried plantains would do quite nicely as well…
I began my usual walk when I started to hear the sound of rain… Getting louder and louder… uh, oh… I was wearing my “Uggs.” Smart. The sound kept getting louder, but I oddly didn’t feel wet, even though I was wearing my super soaker of a fleece jacket and not the rain resistant red one. Then I realized it was hailing. So strange to see tiny, round bits of ice… I’ve seen it before but it generally only lasted a few minutes… this was like a normal rain shower… just… solid. I turned around and made my way back before my “Uggs” could get too squelchy from the melted solids. I haven’t had much hail experience either and maybe part of my need to return was the, “what if the hail gets bigger?” It is funny how people here think hurricanes must be so scary and dangerous while I generally take walks after or sometimes during them… Here I am, having heard the stories of hail, big enough to crack windshields and get all wide eyed at the sight of it. I’ll stay indoors for now :)
Dinner at the Bavarino: I was craving pizza. It was cashew-chicken-minus-the-chicken-add-the-beef-and-make-it-taste-more-like-beef-stew. It did the job of filling me. Maybe I’ll run up to Café Mayer tomorrow...hmm.
My ears were hurting from the cold after dinner walk. Maybe the hail was a sign of snow tomorrow, but I won't be holding my breathe. Just need to start wearing a hat... I should buy a few more for variety.. hmmmmm :)
