Guess Who is Excited?

I keep hitting my snooze button. This cold weather business is meant for hibernating. I fully understand why bears stay in their little caves during the winter only to emerge if their stomach is in need of sustenance. I don’t have to be anywhere till 12ish to eat so, just like those bears, I don’t emerge till I hear the call of my stomach saying, “ feed me….. Please, feed me…... Now!” Once again I woke up before my alarm to peek out my window and check for snow (I don’t want to be late for the first day of snow party) then after seeing the grey sky and wet ground ( sigh... again) I jumped right back under my warm sheets. Today’s warm-sheet time involved a hot cup of instant coffee and a podcast. Not the French Press delight from home, but it’ll do…
Sometimes when the sky was somewhat grey and drizzly my mother would say this looks like a Winter day. I always thought, “how depressing.” But now I know what she was saying. On my walk with Maya the other day there was a scene: orange grass on marshy land with dark birches and pines lining the sides. In high school, I used to paint pictures just like this. The colors were so dark and brownish orange. We tried to take pictures, but none of the results came out well enough to keep. It is a melancholy beauty… like one of those piano pieces you stop to listen to. I would stop and imagine a music video of sad moments to match the tune, now it will be a picture of this Bavarian Fall. It is all so different and though I’ve seen the pictures, painted the pictures, and been told about these pictures… there is nothing like seeing all those pictures come to life.
The hardest part of the walk to work is going up the first section of the hill. My head is always down, snuggled as much into my warm jacket as it allows, but as I reach the top of the hill and see the Alps, once again looking too perfect and Thomas Kinkade-like to be true, I start looking up and around at my surroundings again. The 2-minute walk is worth the slight chill. I’m not speeding down Biscayne annoyed at the driver’s license-less person in front of me who cut me off and then honked at me for being there. I’m not trying to find a radio station that isn’t playing a song by Pitt Bull or Jennifer Lopez for the hundredth time. I’m just walking with a squeaky shoe and enjoying the view. Can I bring this aspect back with me to Miami? No… that is too much to ask for isn’t it?
Tomorrow and Wednesday are this week’s days off.  After two days of working I go back to time off… It will be nice… but the span between the next days off will feel a bit longer. Tomorrow Maya and I will spend with one of the chefs from the kitchen…. And he said we will go see snow :) :) :) :) Tomorrow is the day :) and I am very very excited… can you tell????
Because I am :)

Oh ... the Bavarino served chicken today!!! :)
Hmmmm..... What should I ask for next?

  1. I have always walked wherever I have lived and found that you can soon discover the beauty of nature no matter where you are.
When You get back I can let you know some lovely local places.....and without the hills!
