So I must start off by correcting something I mentioned in my last edition… It is actually the left shoe that squeaks when I walk. I slip into them and head out the door…. Squeaking…. Still squeaking past the first then the second building and up my little hill, but on the way down and the rest of the way the squeaking just stops… it is very odd and I have no idea what causes it or how to stop it, but the shoes are just so comfy I don’t really feel like putting any effort into stopping the squeak. I truly love my shoes. They are ridiculously comfortable in the kitchen, slip on quickly and easily, and are a fabulous and neutral black… One problem when I got them before I let home I thought they were slip resistant. The lady at the shoe said they were so I didn’t bother trying them out… I found out when I got here that they are not. I may look like an old woman when I walk carefully about the super wet areas, but I truly do like my shoes and getting another pair just seems wrong. But anyways yes it is the left shoe not the right shoe that squeaks… and you have been notified. Whew… happy I got that out there.
Today went pretty well. Nothing terribly exciting just more chopping, peeling, dicing and mixing. I did however make a very interesting salad. Ingredients: Their version of brie cheese (cubed), chives (thinly sliced), onions (fine dice), paprika, salt, fennel seed and beer. Sounds super weird (when they told me the ingredients I gave them a very confused face), but the Bavarians and their beer did not let me down, and it turned out to be quite tasty… even with the fennel seed… somehow it just worked. During my often and random workless moments I like to sneak a spoon or two of ice cream…. The station is growing on me :). They still don’t really talk to me, but I don’t mind it so much when I am busy. I am able to focus on my work and actually find my own ways to enjoy the repetitious strawberry slicing and radish peeling.
This morning I got myself out of bed around 10:30 and took another lovely walk around my usual circuit. Today it seemed that all the farms were either being mowed or have their field harvested. The cow ignored the buzzing sound and sat and stood chewing their cud. Cute as always… If they were so big I’d bring one home and remove the need for a lawn mower… then I remember how lovely they smell... and the mess they leave behind… Never mind. I like them cute and here.
I wish I could say tomorrow I get to out and about to Sonthofen, but nope. My usual day off will not be a day off. Apparently the hotel is bringing a bit of Oktoberfest here. Maya and I were planning on going to Munich to experience this German event, but due to timing and not really having a local com with us lessened our desire to venture into this beerfestival. Not knowing the language and being surrounded by a load of drunk Germans … well… it is hard enough to figure out the language when they are sober… and you get the idea of it probably not being the wisest of things to pursue… but hopefully tomorrow (even though we are going to be working) we will get a small taste of what we missed. Then Friday... lovely free day Friday... involving a trip to see a chef from JWU. I am very excited and cannot wait to see him and get farther out of here than Sonthofen. Off to bed I go… back to the lovely mattress and hopefully quite neighbors… :)
