There is hope and internet within a few days. One of the waitresses here has Wifi in her apartment and is willing to share it with me!!!!!! Not sure which day of the week, but it is coming and I am eagerly waiting for it. Soooooo happy and soooo excited! Especially since I think I used all my phone minutes already… So sad since I had literally just started talking to my sister, starting the basic, “Hi how are you,” and then it beeped and ended and I couldn’t call anymore. Arg and Oh well… At least now when the internet comes I’ll be able to Skype. Happy thought indeed.
I am ready to get into the kitchen. This free time is taking its toll. There is only so much walking around that I can do. I eat, walk, nap, eat, and come back to my room to figure out what I should do next: walk some more or nap? I need to make myself useful… This Tuesday at 1 PM I will finally once again have a purpose! I will be working a new station every 14 days starting with Entremetier. Two more days! I hope I can find an iron before then since my chef jackets are a bit wrinkled from the trip.
Today I walked to Sunthofen. It was a good long walk, but I thoroughly enjoyed my self-introduction to the area. My first purchase in the Alps: hand soap, shampoo, a small package of rye bread and cheese, and some of the best mango jelly candy I have ever eaten (No joke these gummy are flavorful packages of chewy mango joy). I walked around and tried to get a basic survey of the area but found most of the interesting stores closed early since it is Saturday. But I still enjoyed exploring the city center. It is an area open only for pedestrians. Little cafes, restaurants, clothing stores, etc… It was a delightfully sunny day, so everyone sat outside eating ice cream or sandwiches and sipping on beer. I wish I hadn’t eaten the schnitzel for lunch since I was still too full to eat again, but next time I’ll have a better idea of where I want to go… (Kind of kicking myself now that I could eat a snack now. Bugger! Of course there is the cafeteria but I am missing prime German food exploration!)
Side note: As I was leaving the town, the church bell began to ring. Other churches in the area rang their bells too and the sound bounced off the mountains. Is it too embarrassing to admit? Nope. I felt like running through some green hill like Fräulein Maria in the beginning of Sound of Music. He he he… But don’t worry, I kept myself from doing that. Well, at least for now. J
When I got back I learned that there is a short cut to the city through some woods, which I will hopefully find out about tomorrow. “Yay,” for faster travel but I honestly don’t mind the walk-of-never-ending-good-scenery. It is funny how in Miami I need to get into my car and drive at least 15 minutes to find a naturally pretty spot. Yes, Miami has its own beauties- my favorites include one of the bridges that is perfectly lit up at night, as well as the bright colors and impressive buildings, and the beach - but this is all modern beauty. After a while, it just feels crowded and loud. I must confess I have grown tired of that paradise. Here the beauty is in the mountains, hills, cows, sheep… etc. It is really refreshing and I can’t help but smile when I look around and see how gorgeous this place is. Even the air smells sweet and fresh, though sometimes a little too fresh from some of the farm’s manure piles.
One thing I really hope to gain while living here are the amazing calf muscles everyone has! From all the hiking and walking on these hills, everyone here has some great muscle definition on their legs. I am actually really excited about this. Yup, Sign me up for the daily work out J I want to join the amazing calf club!
