My computer awakens
A signal is found
I cheer for Wifi
I was never given the gift of poetry. My sister was. She writes about fluffy cloud and shimmering lakes. I on the other hand loved the art of humorous haikus and ridiculous riddles (as well as the always amusing art of alliteration :) ).
Examples of my great work:
Who put the shrill dill on the grill?
And my best haiku of all time:
The wind left
The start left
The skunk blew
Incredible after all these years I still remember those pleasing lines…..
There is a reason I should stick to the art of food =D
Well I wrote the above this morning when I thought I was about to go to Sonthofen and buy the magical piece of technology known as Wifi. As you have gathered from my withering enthusiasm: Nope. Nada. Squat. As the chef started talking to the Vodaphone guys the tone changed from cheerful to a lot of grimacing, head shaking, and the phrase,” this… this is not so good.”. Either I get a stick that I can only use outside or get a stick with incredibly slow internet. If it was summer I might consider the first but it is about to get cold and this FL born girl just ain’t in the mood to shiver while typing. The other option is so slow that it removes all possibilities of Skype… the main purpose of the expense. So back to the lobby I go. Everyone is trying to help me gain this luxury and I truly appreciate all the effort, but good grief. I had no idea this would be so difficult. I’m in the “sticks,” people!
Today I made spaetzle… If I do a batch of dough every day I’ll have the arm of a weight lifter. It involved much mixing and slapping… I understand the slapping part to develop the gluten in the flour and add a nice bite to the final product… But after being told to speak my German words as if I am yelling and now told to slap my dough… I’m finding this German kitchen a great place to vent my frustrations… I’ll be able to remake this dough at home… but with a machine… I think it would be much faster. My next order of business pressing mashed peas through a fine mesh sieve. It was ridiculous and was taking entirely way too much time…. The chef apologized for giving me such a crummy job over and over again. Till I asked, “Robocoupe?” Yes! In a 10th of the time I was able to buzz away at the pea mash to the same and almost better consistency than the sieve. “Yay!” for technology.
There is a little party upstairs… again… Another reason I can’t fall asleep right away at night. I know that once I get back there they will still be chatting away in German… Fantabulous. I still have some stinky cheese in my fridge… Maybe that will help…
